Alexandra Ricketts, LAc

Licensed Acupuncturist & Chinese Medicine Practitioner in Portland, Oregon

Alexandra RickettsAs a Classical Chinese Medicine practitioner, I specialize in treating mental and emotional challenges (including but not limited to anxiety and depression), women’s health, digestive issues, chronic and acute pain, and elder care.

In my experience caring for others’ health, as well as my own, I’ve seen the potential that each human being has for vitality and wellness. My goal is to support the life process within my patients so that this vitality can express itself without inhibition. To this end, I am always listening to and being guided by what my patients say, as well as what their bodies tell me.

Committed to my patients and the healing power of natural medicine

I love building deep, caring relationships with the people I serve and find that this is the ultimate foundation for healing. By helping you discover grounding, relaxation, and ease within yourself, I aim to show you the tools you already possess for deeply engaging in life. Above all else, my work is always guided by a deep respect for the body’s inherent intelligence and tremendous healing capacity.

Depending on your needs, I may utilize acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, yoga therapy, and various forms of bodywork including Holistic Pelvic CareTM, a powerful form of pelvic floor massage that integrates the evidence-based techniques of pelvic floor physical therapy with the more subtle and spiritual elements of the human body. I also enjoy incorporating healing song into my treatments to facilitate deep relaxation and serenity.

Healing modalities include:

Natural medicine education and affiliations

I began my exploration of the human body, mind, and spirit in 2000 with Hatha Yoga, which I deepened by becoming a yoga teacher in 2008.  Since 2010, I’ve continued my healing evolution through the lens of Chinese medicine. I earned my Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR, and I am certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine, and Chinese Herbology.

I’m currently studying Kiiko Matsumoto style acupuncture, a gentle form that is highly effective at producing rapid results. Because of its minimally-invasive approach, this style is often tolerated quite well by children and people who are needle-sensitive. I am affiliated with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and the National University of Natural Medicine.

Outside of work

When I’m not practicing medicine, I love singing with others, spending time in nature, wildcrafting local medicines, and gardening.

What my patients say

“I came to Alexandra for treatment for my chronic fatigue, anxiety, and stomach problems. I felt very safe and comfortable talking to her about my concerns. She is a great listener and really took in what I had to say. Also, she is very intuitive and has been able to see my issues from a whole-body perspective. The treatments themselves have been very transformative for me. Alexandra is able to see things in my body that I was not aware of and goes way beyond just needles. She uses various healing modalities that complement the scope of her practice. She is a true healer! I am so grateful to have found Alexandra. She has helped me find more calm and stability in my body, mind, and heart.” — Julie L.

“Alexandra impressed me with three facets of her talent: the thoroughness in physically assessing my condition, the insightful questioning to bring out more information from me, her use of acupuncture and Classical Chinese Medicine to formulate a plan to not only maintain my health, but to also alleviate any issues that she found during her assessment. One of the key aspects of Alexandra’s approach is how we work as a team focused on my individual health care (not a generic plan developed for most people). Alexandra is a very compassionate health care provider, and I feel lucky being in her care.” — David B.

“I’ve worked with Alexandra Ricketts, LAc, who has proved to be an amazing practitioner. Her warm, intelligent presence, powerful listening and thorough treatments leave me feeling rebalanced, energized and just overall much better in my body. Highly recommended!” — Kalen G.
