Is IV therapy right for me?
Do you suffer from fatigue or digestive complaints? Do you have painful periods, migraines, or asthma? Do you endure a chronic illness, such as high blood pressure or hypothyroidism? Do you have a known or occult nutrient deficiency? Intravenous nutrient therapy (IV Therapy) may be helpful for all of the above. It is an excellent way to replenish nutrient stores associated with various conditions, or improve hydration.
How does IV Therapy work?
IV Therapy involves administering vitamins and minerals through a vein using a needle or catheter. Nutrients go directly into the bloodstream, bypassing any digestive issues or malabsorption. We can achieve higher levels of nutrients in the blood, compared to taking the same nutrients orally.
Individuals with low stomach acid, decreased digestive ability, or digestive diseases often have difficulty absorbing nutrients. Additionally, as we age our ability to digest wanes as our bodies make less stomach acid, and our ability to absorb vitamins and minerals (such as calcium and magnesium) decreases.
What formulas are available?
IV treatments can focus on restoring energy, improving hydration, supporting the immune system, or improving antioxidant status. A popular formula is the Meyers cocktail, which contains magnesium, B vitamins, and Vitamin C, and is great for improving energy, and may be helpful for individuals with conditions such as asthma or migraines. Custom formulations are also available to suite your individual needs, or based on any nutritional deficiencies that may be identified on physical exam or through specialized lab testing.
Will IV therapy hurt?
We use a very small needle to access your bloodstream, so there is minimal discomfort. Once we have access there usually is no pain, and if there is we can often adjust the flow to make receiving IV nutrients a comfortable experience. Some patients experience a pleasant warming sensation, often attributed to magnesium.
I have a health concern that may benefit from IV therapy. How can I get started?
IVs or Meyers cocktails are often given in a series of four to six treatments, since best results often occur after several treatments. Packages are available to help you save, as insurance does not cover IV therapy. If you are interested in receiving a Meyers cocktail or a custom formula, please call our office and schedule an appointment. Please be sure to eat a meal and be hydrated prior to your appointment to improve your IV experience.
