Ken Stern, LMTFeeling at Ease in Your body

My goal for any treatment is to help bring the body back into a state of coherence. When we’re in a state of coherence, our breath is expansive, our muscles are hydrated, our digestion is strong, our skin and eyes glow, we feel more like ourselves. It’s in this state that healing and regeneration happen. With continued treatment and practice over time, this state can become more of a baseline. In our work together, we can improve your brain-body connection, open up pathways for detoxification and blood flow, and release the restrictions in muscles that cause aches, pains, and stiffness. The result will be feeling substantially more at ease in your body and able to enjoy life more fully.

Comprehensive Bodywork

My approach to bodywork is inspired by Osteopathic Manual Therapy. This means that instead of focusing on one isolated part of the body, I focus on how all systems interact with one other. Our nervous systems, organs, lymphatics, and breathing all have a huge impact on chronic pain and tension; that’s why I take a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to treatment. I use elements of Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Visceral Manipulation depending on the symptoms you’re wanting to address. I’m always oriented to listening to and going at the pace of the body and doing work that will actually integrate and not be overwhelming.

Functional Training

It’s important that in the time between treatments, you feel like you have all the tools you need to help yourself. As someone who tried a lot of different movement, breathwork, and exercise protocols with little to no results (often feeling worse in the process) I know the fitness world can be overwhelming and full of conflicting information. What I offer is an approach to strength training, posture, and breathwork based on a grounded understanding of anatomy and physiology that will help you make gains without the stress, joint pain, or micromanaging that training often involves.

Education and Affiliations

My first experience receiving Craniosacral Therapy showed me it was possible to feel at ease in my body and to work through the chronic conditions I had dealt with for years. I found some high level mentors in the fields of Osteopathy and Functional Training and learned many important tools for bringing the body back into a state of coherence. I got my massage training from East West College in Portland and my personal training certification from the American Council on Exercise. I’ve studied with Moving Mountain Institue and the Upledger Institute, received certification as a Functional Patterns trainer, and received extensive 1:1 mentorship in movement, breathwork, neurology, and myofunctional therapy.

I trained in massage therapy at East West College in Portland, Oregon. After getting licensed, I pursued extensive study of Craniosacral Therapy and other osteopathic techniques with Moving Mountain Institute in Portland and the international Upledger Institute. I have 100+ hours of training in these modalities.

I’m certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, and am a MovMed certified recovery trainer, a certification that focuses specifically on nervous system regulation, breathwork, and myofunctional therapy. I’m continuing to pursue 1:1 mentorship and further certification with MovMed.
