Transforming Obstacles Into Solutions

Joanna Present Wolfe, Licensed Acupuncturist, believes that your body knows how to function, and our job is to remind it of this intrinsic ability. One of her favorite Chinese medical dictums is that “the teacher is on the table.” She honors that you, the patient, are the expert on how you feel, and that you have the power to restore your innate state of health. Her first goal is always to listen.
“I love to help you identify and transform your obstacles, on the levels of both physiology and soul. I am happy to assist you in formulating tangible goals and action steps, both in terms of lifestyle/diet/supplements/body and also in terms of setting out an emotional and spiritual path going forward. Whatever intention you have set for yourself will be our guiding principle.”
Joanna was voted one of Portland’s top acupuncturists 2016 in Portland Monthly.

Treatment Methods
Joanna’s training includes multiple styles of acupuncture, including five-element acupuncture, Japanese meridian therapy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and orthopedic muscle-motor point release work. Each of these methods offers unique strategies to best serve individuals. For example, one patient may respond to a very gentle treatment approach, while another benefits most from strong stimulation.
Five-element acupuncture is excellent for working with emotional and spiritual concerns, TCM and motor point acupuncture allow for quick symptom relief and muscle release, and Japanese acupuncture is very gentle for sensitive patients.
In addition to acupuncture, Joanna recommends herbal and nutritional supplements to support your body’s unique needs. She offers dietary and lifestyle suggestions rooted in both Chinese medical tradition and contemporary Western natural health. Joanna frequently utilizes moxibustion, cupping, essential oils, or massage to ensure maximum treatment results.
Joanna is also certified as a Soul Stream Method Life Coach. This coaching form uses body-centered awareness practices, visualizations, numerology, and the chakra system to remove personal obstacles and clarify your path forward in life. A “soul stream life map consultation” provides insight into your strengths and challenges, uncovering the unique gifts you have to offer to the world. Joanna usually weaves the coaching in with the acupuncture treatment.

Education & Credentials
Joanna has been in practice since 2011. Before joining Heart Spring Health, she treated clients at Kwan-Yin Healing Arts Center for over 15 years. Joanna was compelled to study Chinese medicine when acupuncture treatments for a stubborn respiratory ailment unexpectedly clarified her mental and emotional states. Not only could she physically breathe better after treatment, she walked away with a renewed sense of purpose and vitality. This feeling is what she strives to offer each patient in her practice.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, Joanna earned her master’s in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. She is board-certified in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology, as well as NADA-certified in treating addictions. Her training includes multiple styles of acupuncture (Five-Element, Japanese, TCM), each of which offers unique strategies to best serve the individual. Treatments may also include the traditional Chinese medical modalities of cupping, gua sha, and moxibustion.
Joanna has been a certified Soul Stream life coach for more than a decade, after two years of intensive training and ongoing mentorship with celebrated life coach Georgette Star. The coaching tools applied in conjunction with the acupuncture treatment help clients consciously deepen their mind-body-spirit connection. These tools include somatic awareness, mindfulness, visualization, energy clearing, and more.
What Patients Have to Say
“I went to Joanna after a car accident that left me in a lot of pain and with a lot of anxiety. Her treatments always gave me great relief and I found that over time, I needed less frequent treatment and the results lasted for a long time. She is compassionate, kind, and very highly skilled. I have since referred many friends and family members to Joanna, and they have all been very happy with the results!”

“She is amazing! I so appreciate and love her warm spirit and open heart! She has helped me immensely with several issues and taken me through a healthy conception, pregnancy and birth. She now supports me in staying energized, relaxed and balanced being a full-time, nursing mama. I have been to see many, many bodyworkers and healers over the years and Joanna is absolutely my favorite. She works on all levels; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. If I could only afford to do one type of bodywork for my health maintenance, I would choose her work and have!”

“A True Healer in Every Sense of the Word. I cannot say enough about Joanna Present Wolfe, LAC. Over the course of a year working together, she has served me as an acupuncturist, life coach, spiritual guide, and numerologist, and in every single role, she has been nothing short of extraordinary. I came to Joanna exhausted, broken, and deep in a dark night of the soul, navigating the layered challenges of menopause and the toll of chronic overwork. I did not know how to find my way back to myself. Joanna was the light at the end of that tunnel. That is the only way I can describe it: she simply knew how to illuminate the darkness. She knew what I needed to hear, what healing I needed to receive, and which tools would serve me best in any given moment, whether that was a penetrating insight, a practical life tool, a precise combination of acupuncture points, the warmth of moxa, or a truth revealed through divination. Her approach is both intuitive and deeply practical. She does not guess; she reads. And what she brings forward is always exactly right. Over our time together, Joanna helped me restore my body, my mind, and my spirit. She guided me back to balance and into a level of health and clarity I had not thought possible. Her loving presence alone is healing. Combined with her remarkable clinical and spiritual acumen, she is simply irreplaceable. If you are looking for someone who meets you exactly where you are and walks with you all the way back to yourself, Joanna Present Wolfe is that person. I am profoundly grateful.”

“Every time I leave an appointment with Joanna I feel so much lighter and rebalanced. I began working with her because I had endometriosis surgery coming up and she helped me rebalance physically and energetically through the whole journey. Today I came in with pelvic and bladder pain and I left feeling ZERO pain and so much lighter. I also enjoy our deep conversations and the spiritual lens she brings to our sessions. Joanna is a wealth of wisdom. I literally cannot say enough great things, I’ve tried acupuncture at 3 other places and nothing compares to my sessions with Joanna.”

“Joanna is the best acupuncturist I have ever seen. And it’s not particularly close. I’ve seen probably a dozen of them in the 20+ years I’ve been in chronic pain. Joanna is more than just an acupuncturist, but a true healer with a gift for holding space and creating a healing environment. She has helped me grow as a father, teacher and human, as well as helped me heal on the physical level. I’ve recommended her to numerous friends and acquaintances and they’ve all been in agreement. I’m so grateful that I get to receive treatment from her. She is a true gift to this universe, and my favorite medical practitioner of all time!”
